OP UNIFIER Children's Playground Project

On September 10th 2019, Joint Task Force – Ukraine officially opened the Boomer’s Legacy Fund Playground in Desna, Ukraine.

A project which began in early 2019 was officially completed, much to the delight of the many children gathered to take part in the opening ceremony. The opportunity to provide the children of the Desna Military Base with a playground to play and grow was made possible thanks to the generous contribution of the Boomer’s Legacy Fund.

The project began when Canadian Armed Forces Medics, deployed in support of Canada’s training mission in Ukraine, noticed the many children and families who lived on the base the CAF members worked on every day. The deployed Medics had been training Ukrainian medics at the 205 Tactical Medical Training Center but saw the opportunity to have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of the children and families who lived on the base. Through their efforts and the support of the Boomer’s Legacy Fund, the necessary funding was allocated to allow for the creation of a children’s playground.

The aim of Joint Task Force – Ukraine was to keep the memory Cpl Andrew ‘Boomer’ Eykelenboom alive by helping the people we work with every day here in Ukraine. The opening of this playground and seeing the children who will benefit from it was a meaningful event for all who had the privilege to work on the project.
