Education and Activities

The Boomer's Legacy committee has established a direct connection between local and out-of-province schools in order to educate students about the purpose of the Legacy - honoring and recognizing members of the Canadian Forces, as well as supporting them while they are providing aid to people in areas of conflict.

Afghanistan Through Boomer's Eyes is a series of photos taken by Cpl. Andrew Eykelenboom prior to his death in August of 2006, and forms the basis for the school presentations. The power point presentation reveals the everyday lives of the Afghani people as seen by Andrew during his tour of duty, as well as current submissions from troops currently in Afghanistan. Whether at a Remembrance Day assembly, or in a class setting, the presentation is given by Maureen Eykelenboom, Andrew's mother or Al Pulin, Educational Advisor for Boomer's Legacy or a Canadian soldier who served with Andrew in Afghanistan. There is currently a DVD of the presentation available to teachers. On the humanitarian level, school children have packaged up thousands of knitted Boomer caps which are sent to Afghanistan via our deployed troops, who distribute them to needy Afghan children in the villages where they are patrolling
